In order for the new sound system to start delighting the owner with clear sound, it must be properly connected to a desktop personal computer or laptop. All speaker wires must be connected to their designated ports for everything to work properly. If you make a mistake with the connection, it is quite possible that the sound will not appear

Subwoofer: active and passive

A subwoofer is a speaker system designed to reproduce low frequencies from 20 Hz. The system itself is a relatively large enclosure with a large speaker. Subwoofers are divided into active (have a built-in amplifier) and passive (do not have a built-in amplifier). Most commonly used in car audio systems and home theater systems. If you want to listen to good music with great and powerful bass, but there are no big and powerful speakers, then you just need to buy a subwoofer.

Features of the main speaker systems:

  • An active subwoofer is more expensive, since it already contains additional components suitable for this model, which provide high-quality sound;
  • With regard to installation, passive subwoofers are a little more complicated, besides, they require additional space for arranging the amplifier, and in active ones, all this is already inside the box itself;
  • Ease of use - active acoustics is the leader here;
  • Regarding the sound, which subwoofer is better than active or passive, and what is the difference - it all depends on the system setting: with the correct and high-quality playback setting in a passive speaker system, the sound can be even better than in an active one;
  • In an active speaker system, the sound is smoother, while in a passive one, it is spacious and dense;
  • Bass frequencies and rhythmic music sounds better with active acoustics;
  • Ease of use - active options have more varied settings, but if there is a good external amplifier in a passive subwoofer, then it will not differ in any way in sound reproduction quality.

How to connect speakers and a subwoofer to a laptop

Connecting speakers 2.0 and 2.1:

  1. The speakers are placed on the sides of the monitor or in another chosen place. For the convenience of sound perception, the right channel should be placed on the right, and the left - on the left. This can be understood either by the markings on the speakers, or by the presence of controls - the light indication and the volume control wheel are usually located on the main (left) channel.
  2. The system is connected to a 220 V electrical network. After that, you need to check if the speakers are working - pull the power lever, if there is one, and see if the light indication has turned on. If all is well, proceed to the next step.
  3. Take a close look at the back of your computer. On it you will see three (or more) circular inputs of the sound card built into the motherboard, which is responsible for processing sound information.

The inputs are color-coded, from left to right:

  • pink - for a microphone;
  • green (light green) - for front (regular) speakers - what we need;
  • blue - line-in for auxiliary devices (for example, a subwoofer).

We connect the main speaker to the input on the computer. It usually has three cables / outputs. One of them is already plugged into the outlet, the other is thin, with a plug with a diameter of 3.5 mm at the end. As a rule, it is painted in the color of the entrance we need. We stick it into the light green connector on the computer intended for it.

The second speaker - the right channel - is usually either inseparably connected to the main speaker, or connected to it with a separate wire. But it is difficult to get confused here - the right speaker has only one wire, and the left has one connector for connecting to the right speaker.

A subwoofer is connected, if any. There are two options here. If the subwoofer has a built-in amplifier, the whole device is simply connected with a blue cable to the blue input on the board. If the amplifier is external, first the subwoofer is connected to the amplifier, and it is already connected to the computer in the same way.

The system is connected to a laptop in exactly the same way, only the amplifier cannot be connected: most often there is no line-in on laptops.

Connection 5.1:

Sound card realtek alc 888 and higher. If one has one on your laptop, then you use 3 inputs to connect. This method is called analog. Its essence is that all possible outputs will be used to reproduce six audio channels. Front right or left channel is for one plug, rear right or rear left is for the other. The front channel or subwoofer is the third connection.

For digital connection, a decoder from a music center or home theater is used. It serves as a kind of adapter, in which the speakers are directly connected. This method is much more convenient and practical. On a laptop, only one input will be borrowed - s-pdif, located in the connector where the headphones are connected. You also need a special minitoslink-toslink cable. But if you have a music center, then it all comes in the kit.

Adjust the volume, set equalizers, set the effects. The optimal threshold on the mixer slider is 80. The individual channels are tuned through Realtek.
