Step 1
Before using Fraps, understand its settings and adjust it, as they say, for yourself. The program interface has four main tabs: General, FPS, Movies and Screenshots. Below is a more detailed description of those that you will need in the process of recording video or will help to make this process more convenient. To be more precise - about everyone except Screenshots.
Step 2
There are only three settings on the General tab. If you check the box next to Start Fraps minimized, after starting the program will be displayed only in the tray. If the window is always on top next to Fraps, then the program window will constantly hang on top of other windows. A check mark next to Run Fraps when Windows starts means that the program will open every time the operating system starts.
Step 3
The FPS tab contains settings for displaying the number of frames per second (FPS - frames per second) on the screen. During video recording, this indicator may be needed to determine how good the result will be. For example, if the FPS is 5-10 (considering that the optimal option for the human eye is 24), then the video will turn out to be jerky and therefore unattainable. In the Overlay Corner field, which looks like a black square with a white border and rounded edges, you can specify the angle at which the FPS will be. Pay attention to the Disabled item - if you make it active, the FPS indicator will not be shown anywhere. In the Overlay Display Hotkey field, you can set a key, when pressed, the above angle will change. Make sure not to check the Stop benchmark automatically after … seconds checkbox to avoid losing the FPS after a certain time.
Step 4
The Movies tab contains the settings for the video itself. The Folder to save movies in field specifies the directory into which the recorded videos will be saved. If you click on View, the specified directory will open, if on Change, a window will appear to change it. In the Video Capture Hotkey field, specify the key that will start and stop recording when pressed. Make sure that this button is not the same as the one that is responsible for some important action in the game. On the right side, specify the number of FPS with which the video will be recorded. If you plan to create a gorgeous slo-mo on the video in the future, it is better to put more, for example 100, just keep in mind that in this case considerable performance will be required from your computer. The Half-size and Full-size items are responsible for the recording quality. If you want the video to be with sound, check the box next to Record sound.
Step 5
Make sure you remember to open Fraps before starting the game. Because if you open it after launching it won't work. To start recording, press the key you specified in the Video Capture Hotkey field.
