The PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console allows you to connect to the Internet, play online games and automatically download updates. You can connect your PS3 to the network wirelessly or using the included Ethernet cable.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure your wireless internet connection is active to connect to your console. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the PS3 if connected to the system.
Step 2
Turn on your Playstation 3 and select Network Settings from the Settings section of the main menu.
Step 3
Select Internet Connection Settings and select Yes when the system displays a new screen saying that you will be disconnected from the Internet.
Step 4
Select Easy on the next screen asking what type of installation you want to use.
Step 5
Select Wireless when asked what type of internet connection to use.
Step 6
Select Scan on the next screen. The system will start searching for all available internet connections nearby.
Step 7
Select your home internet connection when a pop-up display of available options appears on the screen. Select security options and enter your encryption key. Save the settings.
Step 8
Test the connection by selecting the Test Connection option. If the connection is established, the network information will appear on the screen. To connect the PS3 using an Ethernet cable, proceed to the next step.
Step 9
Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the PS3 system and the other to the Ethernet port on the modem.
Step 10
Turn on your PS3. The system should connect to the internet automatically.
Step 11
If it doesn't, you need to tell the PS3 connection settings. Open the Settings menu, then press the X button. Select Internet Connection Settings, and then press the X button again. Select Yes when prompted to interrupt communication. Select Wired Connection and press the X button. Select Easy and the PS3 will automatically set up your Internet connection. Select the "Save" command.
Step 12
Select the Test Connection option to confirm that the PlayStation 3 system is connected to the Internet.
