Books and manuscripts, like people, age over the years. They acquire a "sick" appearance, lose elasticity. The preservation of books is influenced by the conditions of their storage and the methods of their care. In addition, it is important to properly clean books from dust and dirt and protect from excessive exposure to sunlight.

Necessary

  • soap,
  • rag,
  • brush,
  • vacuum cleaner,
  • water,
  • ammonia,
  • vinegar,
  • paper,
  • box,
  • flicide,
  • formalin,
  • iron,
  • magnesium solution in ampoules,
  • petrol,
  • hydrogen peroxide,
  • baking soda,
  • glue BF,
  • acetic acid.

Instructions

Step 1

Try vacuuming your books. To do this, place them in a tight row so that they do not get disheveled from the strong draft of the air. You can dust the books with a soft, dry cloth such as cotton. From time to time, do a more thorough cleaning, remove books from the shelves and wipe each of them, while gently wiping the shelves themselves with a damp cloth. Replace the books only after the shelves are dry.

Step 2

Try to ventilate bookcases regularly by leaving their doors open overnight. This procedure can be carried out once or twice a week.

Step 3

If there are insects in the books (kozheed, flour grinder, room moth) or bacteria and mold, then you need to get rid of the pests. Take the flicide and draw the composition into the pipette, apply drops on the binding. After that, wrap the books in paper and put them in a tightly closed box for one to two weeks.

Step 4

Mold-infected books are treated with 2% formalin solution (no stains remain on the paper). This treatment must be carried out in closed rooms, separately from other books, so as not to infect them with mold.

Step 5

You can easily remove a grease stain from a book with an iron. Iron the stained sheet with a hot iron through a thick layer of paper. Mix equal proportions of magnesium and gasoline and wipe the stain, then wipe the sheet with damp cotton wool and dry. This will help you get rid of old grease stains on your books.

Step 6

Use hydrogen peroxide to get rid of ink stains. Add 2-3 drops of ammonia to the peroxide and wipe the stained area. The citric acid solution will help remove rust stains from the pages. Fly and cockroach stains can be removed well with vinegar.

Step 7

You can remove finger stains with soapy water, for this, wipe the book with a damp soap swab, then rinse with water. Dry the sheets thoroughly.

Step 8

Marks on the paper are formed if you do not carefully remove the stains with an iron. Mix baking soda and water until mushy, cover the stain and dry. Brush off any remaining baking soda.

Step 9

You can remove the mascara stain on the leaterine cover using the draftsman's method. Mix 1 part of BF glue and 5 parts of acetic acid, treat the surface and wipe with a dry cloth. The stain will disappear.
