Alteration of a flash drive consists in changing its format from one to another. This procedure is performed to clear the data carrier from data and to speed up the work of the data carrier by converting the type of data storage into a more efficient, reliable and fast one.
Instructions
Step 1
To format a USB flash drive, you can use the standard functions of the system. Insert the media into the USB port of your computer, which is located on the front or back of its case.
Step 2
Wait for the USB flash drive to be defined in the system. If you are installing this particular storage medium into your computer for the first time, you will need to wait about 2 minutes while the system detects the media type and installs the drivers necessary for the effective operation of the device.
Step 3
After finishing the installation of equipment in the system, you will see a window with a further option for performing operations. You can close this window, and then click the "Start" - "Computer" menu to view the disk media installed on the system.
Step 4
Right-click on the name of your flash drive. In the context menu that appears, click on the "Format" line to go to the window for selecting options for the procedure.
Step 5
Among the options offered, in the "Format" field, indicate the format of the media you want to receive. Windows often offers 2 popular options: FAT32 or NTFS. NTFS is faster than FAT32 format, and therefore it is advisable to choose it when formatting.
Step 6
Check the box next to "Quick Format" to speed up the conversion process. If you want to completely delete all data on the media without the possibility of recovery, uncheck this item. It is worth noting that when formatting in both cases, all data will be erased, however, if you lose important information, you can try to perform the recovery procedure, which after a complete cleaning will be impossible.
Step 7
Click the "Start" button to start converting. The procedure should take no more than 2 minutes, after which you will see a notification "Formatting completed". The format conversion is complete and the media structure rework is complete. You can remove the media from the USB port of your computer.
