On June 27, 2012 in San Francisco, Google presented its first branded tablet Nexus 7 (the number indicates the screen diagonal). "Hardware", that is, the body and its contents, is produced by Asus, the software part remained with Google - the device runs on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
Sales of the younger Nexus 7 models in Europe have not yet begun, and the date of the device's appearance in Russia is generally unknown, so you can buy a Google tablet so far only in American online stores with delivery in 2-3 weeks (pre-order is available in online stores in the UK and Australia).
Google tablets are now available in two types: with built-in memory of 8 and 16 GB, the manufacturer's price of 199 and 250 dollars, respectively. Both devices are equipped with a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels and a viewing angle of 178 degrees, they run on a quad-core NVidia Tegra 3 processor with a frequency of 1.3 GHz, with 1 GB of RAM, a front-facing webcam of 1.2 megapixels, a fairly capacious battery (enough for 9 hours of video streaming), Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC (wireless data exchange at short distances). The dimensions of the device are 198, 5x120x10, 45 mm - as you can see, the Google tablet is compact and fits comfortably even in the pocket of your jacket.
Of the minuses, the first users note the lack of 3G and the ability to connect an additional memory card. The first, however, is not very important, given the rather budgetary cost of the tablet, and the second is more than offset by Google cloud services (for example, Google Drive) and the ability to store a sufficient amount of information on them for free.
In order to buy a Google tablet directly from the manufacturer's store, you need to go to the device sale page in the Google Play online market.
When entering from a Russian IP address, you will see a message stating that Google Play devices are not yet available in Russia. This limitation is quite easy to get around - go to the Google tablet purchase page through any anonymous proxy. To pay for purchases through Google Play, you will need to link to your account with a bank card issued in the USA - or use the services of an intermediary, for example, the Shipito delivery service.
Another way to buy a tablet is to order it from one of the American or European online stores, or from resellers on eBay. Officially, sales of the Google tablet in Europe and Australia begin in the second half of July 2012.
