The latest technological developments are often driven not so much by the available technologies or the imagination of the authors, as by creative impudence. Take, for example, the recently announced “augmented reality glasses” from Google: such devices were invented by science fiction writers many years ago, but they didn’t “couldn't” bring them to life earlier - they simply did not dare.
According to the latest statements from Google, the new glasses will go on sale in the last quarter of 2012, but this will not be the final product.
The 2012 version is just a "concept", which integrates the main declared functions: accelerometer, navigation and communication modules, photo and video camera, voice control. The prototype will cost $ 1,500 and cannot be sold directly: it can only be ordered by software developers who pre-ordered at the Google I / O conference. In fact, the item is not only inaccessible to the average user, but also unnecessary.
Such "portions" of the product will be improved, cheaper and released more and more often until the full release, scheduled for 2014. The only way to get them before that date is to follow the corporation's shares and attend major presentations.
Estimated cost of glasses: $ 200-400, no more expensive than a modern smartphone. Obviously, sales will not start at the same time around the world: in order to get into the list of the first users, you will have to order goods in online stores or auctions. However, it is better to worry about this in advance by pre-ordering as soon as possible: the starting batch of such things, as a rule, is sold out in a matter of hours.
Technical innovations come to Russia with a delay of several months. It is safe to say that the further the city is from the two capitals, the longer the delay. In addition, purchasing a device in Russia may turn out to be significantly more expensive: both due to a lower level of income, and due to various trade margins.
In this context, you should not limit yourself to smart glasses from just one company. Less than a month after the announcement, almost all the giants of the market announced similar developments: perhaps the buyer in search of an alternative should take a closer look at the products of Apple, Microsoft or Olimpus, between which serious competition is likely to unfold now.
