With the advent of LCD TVs, all other technologies seemed to be a thing of the past. This is what happened with CRT TVs. However, as far as plasma is concerned, they not only have not disappeared, but continue to be improved and produced by leading manufacturers of household appliances.

LCD TVs practically dominate the TV market. Their technology is well developed and they have a low cost, which is beneficial for manufacturers. These TVs have already got rid of "childhood illnesses" and even cheap models allow you to get a high-quality picture.

However, with all its advantages, LCD TVs also have significant disadvantages that, for example, plasma TVs do not have, which allows the plasma to stay afloat. Therefore, the debate continues as to which is better - plasma or LCD.

Advantages and disadvantages of LCD TVs

The main advantages of LCD TVs are screen brightness and, more importantly, the ability to produce Full HD panels of small diagonals. Full HD screens of 3 inches are already being created!

LCD screens are also ideal for viewing still images such as photographs or drawings, making them indispensable as computer monitors.

Unfortunately, some shortcomings go further - this is the response time, and the notorious viewing angles, as well as insufficient contrast, uneven backlighting, incorrect display of black and white colors. And although manufacturers improve these indicators, these problems cannot be completely eliminated, since they are a consequence of the multilayer structure of the LCD matrix.

Plasma advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of plasma are high contrast and realism of color display, unattainable for LCD panels. Also, the cost of TVs of large diagonals - more than 50 inches - is lower than LCD TVs, and the image quality is higher.

In modern plasma panels, manufacturers have gotten rid of the main drawbacks - increased power consumption and low service life. Now energy consumption is at the level of LCD TVs, and the resource exceeds 100,000 hours, for LCD - 60,000 hours. The screen brightness is still lower than LCD - this is only important if you enjoy watching TV in a very brightly lit room.

The main disadvantage of plasma today is the inability to create high-resolution panels with a diagonal of less than 42 inches. This is due to the physical impossibility of creating arbitrarily small cells. Therefore, Full HD plasma cannot be less than 50 inches.

3D function

As it turns out, plasma is ideal for 3D. Plasma 3D playback is virtually free of crosstalk, lens darkening of active glasses at some angles, deepest black levels and highest contrast, wide viewing angles and very attractive prices.

The disadvantages are the same: there are no TVs with small diagonals and an insufficient lineup.

conclusions

If you need a TV with a diagonal of less than 42 inches, then there is no alternative to LCD today. Plasma less than 42 inches is simply not produced, and picture tubes are already a thing of the past.

If you are looking for a large TV for home theater, then the choice is unambiguous - plasma. You will get the perfect image, with realistic colors, high definition and contrast, more comfortable for the eyes and at the same time the cost of such a panel will be lower than LCD.
