To send faxes by e-mail, you can use specialized online services. Some services are free, while others charge a monthly fee for sending faxes. Services such as eFax, Fax Zero and Got Free Fax provide a real number that can be used to send a fax to an email address.
Instructions
Step 1
Sign up for one of the free services that allows you to choose a number to send your fax to by email. Make sure that the recipients to whom you plan to send the fax also have numbers associated with their email accounts. Otherwise, they will not be able to receive the fax sent from your number.
Step 2
Open an e-mail program or log in to your account on a mail service site (for example, Gmail). To do this, enter your username and password in the appropriate fields. Click the Sign In button. Select the Compose Message or Compose Mail option.
Step 3
Fill in the information fields to send faxes to the recipient's email address. Enter the recipient's fax number in the T (To) field, add a short description of the message in the Subject field. Compose a text message and enter it in the Message field or in the main part of the mail program or service window.
Step 4
Download the file saved on your computer as an attachment. If you want to send a document, click the Attachments button, then Browse to find the path to the document file on your computer. Make sure the information you send is not password protected, read-only, or encrypted.
Step 5
Use the Spellchecker option to find any typos and grammatical errors that may be in the message. After you finish editing the fax, click the Send button. In order to receive a fax to e-mail from other users, tell them your number. Then open your email program or log into your email account and check your inbox for faxes.
