There are situations in which you cannot or have no time to seek help from a specialist, and you need to repair the battery very urgently. The most common battery breakdowns are oxidation of the output pins, low electrolyte levels, battery contamination, or electrolyte contamination.
Necessary
- - spanners;
- - screwdriver;
- - a hammer;
- - technical petroleum jelly.
Instructions
Step 1
Oxidation of the output pins This problem interrupts the flow of current in the vehicle or increases the resistance in the circuit, which can damage the electrical system. The problem is eliminated as follows: - remove the terminals from the battery and clean them, then clean the output pins of the battery;
- put all the parts back in place and check the terminals for secure attachment (the terminal should not move while on the pins);
- grease the terminals with technical vaseline or any substitute for it to make the design reliable.
Step 2
Low electrolyte level Due to the low electrolyte level in the battery, all the water can evaporate due to the presence of cracks. If the battery housing is intact, just add water to the correct rate. Fill with distilled water only and check the density of the electrolyte occasionally.
Step 3
Rapid battery discharge This problem can occur for two reasons: electrolyte contamination or contamination of the battery itself. In order to quickly eliminate this oversight, you must do the following: - wipe dry all contact parts;
- after receiving the result, replace the old electrolyte with a new one;
- if a short circuit occurs in the battery due to the crumbling of the active mass and destruction of the lead separators, be sure to purchase a new battery, since you will not be able to replace the separators on your own, and companies will not undertake this.
Step 4
Sulfation of inner plates When this problem occurs, sulfuric acid lead appears on the plates, which looks like large crystals. A problem arises due to improper maintenance and care of the battery, which were expressed in long-term storage of the battery in a discharged state or with a low electrolyte density. In this case, you must immediately take the battery to a professional who will suggest a way to solve the problem.
