Remote control televisions have long taken root in our homes. But sometimes you don't want to part with the old device, which does not have such a function. A home craftsman with the necessary skills can add a remote control to it.

Instructions

Step 1

Many later unified black and white tube TVs allow standard wired remotes to be connected to control volume and brightness. In order to do this, it is necessary, first of all, with the device turned off, to remove the closing plug from the socket marked as "DU". It can be found on the back or on the side of the TV. Be sure to keep this cap, as the device will not work if there is neither one nor a remote control in the slot.

Step 2

Take three insulated shielded cables up to five meters long. Both at the beginning and at the end, connect their screens to each other. On the plug connected to the remote control connector on the TV, jumper between pins 3 and 5. Connect the braids of all cables to pin 1, the central cores to pins 4, 6 and 7.

Step 3

Assemble the panel in a casing made of non-combustible insulating material. Install two 470 kΩ variable resistors in it. Slide wide insulating handles over their shafts.

Step 4

For one resistor, jumper one of the extreme terminals with the middle one. Connect the place of their connection to the cable braids. Connect the remaining lead to the center conductor of the cable going to the sixth pin of the connector.

Step 5

At the other resistor, connect one of the outermost leads to the braids, the center terminal to the central core of the cable going to pin 4, and the remaining extreme terminal to the central core of the cable going to pin 7.

Step 6

Connect the remote to your TV. Turn it on, and without touching any current-carrying contacts of the remote control, after it warms up, try to turn the regulators. The brightness and volume should start to change. If one of the parameters increases when you turn the knob clockwise and counterclockwise, turn off the TV, disconnect the remote control from it, swap the extreme terminals of the corresponding variable resistor, then reconnect the remote control to the TV, and check if the parameter is adjusted correctly.

Step 7

With the TV off, carefully insulate all connections and close the remote.

Step 8

To enable the TV to be turned on and off remotely, make a special extension cord, in which an ordinary switch for open wiring, well reinforced on an insulating base, is included in the open circuit between the plug and the socket. Also insulate all connections in this extension cord. Connect the TV to the mains through it by placing the switch near the sofa.

Step 9

If the TV does not have a UHF channel selector, install it, or, if you do not know how to do this, entrust this work to an experienced master. At the same time, ask him to carry out preventive maintenance on the TV and clean it from dust.

Step 10

Connect a VCR with a tuner to the UHF channel selector, and connect the antenna to the VCR. Having turned on both devices, tune the TV to the frequency of the VCR modulator, and on the VCR itself, tune the channels. Now they can be switched from the remote control. Thus, in total you got three remotes: for adjusting the volume and brightness, for controlling the TV's power, and for switching channels.
