A mixing console is a device that allows you to combine signals from various sources in user-defined proportions. Such consoles are widely used, in particular in studios. But there is a place for a mixing console at home.
Instructions
Step 1
Purchase the required number of double variable resistors with a nominal value of about 200 kilo-ohms. Their number should correspond to the number of channels. They should be the same, preferably a slider type.
Step 2
The leads of all sections of variable resistors that are connected to the slider in the position corresponding to the minimum level, connect to the common wire of the mixer.
Step 3
Install the required number of pairs of input jacks on the chassis. Connect the common contacts of all jacks to the common wire of the mixer. Connect the signal contact of one socket of the pair to the contact of one of the sections of the corresponding variable resistor, which is connected to the slider in the position corresponding to the maximum level. Connect the signal pin of the other jack of the pair to the same pin of the other section of the same variable resistor.
Step 4
Connect the remaining pairs of input jacks to the remaining variable resistors in the same way.
Step 5
Take 0.1 μF capacitors equal to twice the number of mixer channels. Connect the motors of all upper sections of variable resistors through such capacitors to one connecting bus, the motors of all lower sections - through the same capacitors with another connecting bus.
Step 6
Attach a pair of output jacks to the chassis. Connect the common contacts of these jacks to the common wire of the mixer. Connect the signal contact of one socket to one backing bus, the other to the other.
Step 7
Make the mixer mono if desired. Then single variable resistors will be needed, the number of sockets and capacitors will be halved, and the connecting bus will be one. If the mixer is stereo and the source is monaural, connect it in parallel to both inputs. Connect microphones and guitar pickups to the mixer via pre-amplifiers. If the signal level is insufficient, such an amplifier can be placed after the output of the mixer.
