Toy stores sell kits for assembling working models of brushed electric motors. According to the principle of operation, a motor made from such a set is no different from the real one.

Instructions

Step 1

Purchase a kit to assemble a demo working model of a brushed electric motor. Its estimated cost ranges from 300 to 450 rubles. Modern versions of such kits, for example, from Meccano, are produced in China. Usually, everything you need is included in their package, including fasteners, but with the exception of the tool.

Step 2

If the engine armature is supplied disassembled, reassemble it. Wind all windings, paying particular attention to the direction of winding. Install the slats on the manifold. Connect the windings to them in accordance with the table in the manual for the kit. At the same time, observe their phasing.

Step 3

Place the stator on the base supplied with the kit. In case the permanent magnets are not yet placed in it, place them, observing the position of the poles indicated in the instructions. Secure the magnets well.

Step 4

Insert the armature into the stator according to the assembly diagram. Install the brush holder on the base, and in it - the brushes.

Step 5

Slide the bearings onto the rotor. Install them in the holders (if they are not integral with the bearings in your kit) and fasten to the base.

Step 6

Check if the motor you assembled completely matches the assembly diagram. Make sure that the experiment is not carried out in an atmosphere of flammable or explosive gases, vapors or suspensions. Connect the motor to a well-isolated power source with the parameters recommended in the instructions. It will start spinning.

Step 7

Try to lower (but not increase!) The motor supply voltage, reverse the polarity of the power supply. See what changes. Beware of the increased self-induction voltage that occurs when switching windings, as well as when the power is turned off. With the engine off, try connecting a small neon light between any two armature lamellas. Fasten it so that it touches nothing during rotation and almost does not disturb the balance. Turn on the engine, and by the glow of the rotating light, you will make sure that the self-induction voltage is really present.
