A sound card is a device that allows your computer to play or record sound. It can be an expansion card or integrated into the motherboard. The performance of an external card is generally better than that of a built-in card.
Instructions
Step 1
If you decide to install a new sound card, it is better to disable the integrated one so that these devices do not conflict. This can be done by changing the BIOS settings. To do this, restart your computer. After the initial polling of devices and a single POST beep, the message Press Delete to Setup appears at the bottom of the screen. Press the Delete key to enter. Depending on the BIOS manufacturer, some other key may be used to enter the settings, usually F2 or F10.
Step 2
In the Setup menu, find the section related to integrated devices. It is usually called Integrated Device, Peripheral Setup or something similar. These devices can be in one of the following states:
- Enable - enabled and used;
- Disable - disabled;
- Auto - device status is determined by the system.
Step 3
Find your sound card and put it in the Disable state. Then press F10 on your keyboard to exit Setup and save your changes. Answer “Y” to the system's question.
Step 4
You can disable the built-in sound card using Windows tools. From the Start menu go to Control Panel and expand the System node. Then go to the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
Step 5
Double click on the "Network Cards" icon. To open the drop-down menu, right-click on the built-in network card icon and select the "Disable" command. Answer “Yes” to the system's question about disconnection. The device is now marked with a red cross. If you need to turn on the map again, use the "Activate" option in the context menu.
Step 6
You can disable the network card in another way. In the "Control Panel", right-click on the "Local Area Connection" icon and select "Properties". In the "General" tab, click "Configure" and in the "Device Application" window, select "Device Disabled" from the list.
