An RJ-45 (Cat.5e) standard Ethernet wall socket allows you to quickly disconnect a computer from the local network, move it to another room and connect there. In design, it is close to the telephone socket of the RJ-11 standard, but has more contacts.

Instructions

Step 1

Fix the cable that you plan to connect to the outlet on the wall in one way or another that is safe for it (using brackets or a cable box). Find two latches on the bottom of the socket. Click on them and the cover will come off.

Step 2

Pass the cable through the hole in the bottom, lay it in the channel on its back side, and then, using a screwdriver, fix the base together with the connector and terminal block on the wall with two self-tapping screws. Be careful not to puncture the cable.

Step 3

Remove the outer sheath from the latter to a length of about 2 cm. Strip the cores themselves to a length of about 0.5 cm (the terminal block of the socket, unlike the Ethernet plug, is not always equipped with devices for automatically piercing the insulation of the cores).

Step 4

Look at what scheme (A or B) the Ethernet plug is crimped on the opposite side of the cable (where the switch or router is located). If the socket has a sticker on the terminal block with two rows of colored squares, connect the wires according to the row labeled 568A for circuit A, or according to row 568B for circuit B.

Step 5

In the absence of a sticker, assuming that the base is turned with the terminal block down and the outlet is up, connect the conductors in the direction from the left contact to the right in the following order: for option A - brown, brown-white, orange, orange-white, blue, blue -white, green, green-white, for option B - brown, brown-white, green, green-white, blue, blue-white, orange, orange-white.

Step 6

Please note that these wiring diagrams differ from those used when crimping Ethernet plugs: the conductors on the terminal block are grouped by color pairs for convenience, and also that in some socket designs, the wiring diagram may differ from the one described above. For example, it can be the same as on the plugs, or the contacts for the blue and blue-white wires can be located to the right of the rest.

Step 7

If the terminal block is double-row, then, assuming that the socket is directed upwards, and the terminal block is located under it, the following connection scheme is most often used: left row, from top to bottom, for schemes A and B: brown, brown-white, blue, blue-white, right row, top to bottom, for pattern A: green-white, green, orange-white, orange, right row, top to bottom, for pattern B: orange-white, orange, green-white, green.

Step 8

Close the socket with a lid, connect the computer's network card to it with a cable crimped in a straight pattern (in no case according to the Crossover pattern), and then make sure that there is a connection.
