Step 1

Before starting to restore the life of a non-working battery, determine its possible malfunctions. If the electrolyte in the battery turns black, then the carbon plates are destroyed. In the case when the battery capacity drops to almost 0, the plates may have become sulfated. One of the most difficult cases, but not entirely hopeless, is plate closure. If the sides of your battery are swollen, and the electrolyte immediately boils, then there is nothing you can do about it, since the battery is frozen over.

Step 2

In case of closure of the plates, flush the battery with distilled water. Never start charging it! Do the flushing until the coal crumbs are washed out of the battery together with the water. Next, fill the battery with electrolyte of nominal density and add the additive. Within 48 hours, allow the additive to dissolve, and the electrolyte to free all sections from air. After that, connect the battery to the charging, but do not charge it, but perform a kind of “charge-discharge” exercise until the normal capacity is restored.

Step 3

Once you reach the proper capacity, charge the battery, keeping an eye on the voltage at the terminals. The charging current should be no more than 0.1 A. Charge until the voltage at the terminals reaches 2, 3-2, 4 V for each section. Then reduce the current by half and continue charging. If you see that the density of the electrolyte and the voltage at the terminals does not change for 2 hours, add electrolyte to bring the density to the nominal. After all, discharge the battery so that the voltage at the terminals is 1.7 V per cell.
