Repair and purchase of a new battery are always associated with certain monetary costs. Before contacting a specialist who will help you solve another problem with the unit, you can try to restore its capacity on your own.
Necessary
- - ammonia solution of Trilon B;
- - distilled water;
- - Charger;
- - hydrometer;
- - electrolyte of nominal density
Instructions
Step 1
Multiple low current charging
Charge the battery using a charger with a current of 0.04-0.06 of the nominal capacity. It is necessary to charge the battery within 6-8 hours. By the end of the first stage of charging, the voltage on the battery should increase and it will cease to receive a charge. Take a break for 8-16 hours. During the break, the electrode potentials in the depth and on the surface of the active mass of the plates equalize. The electrolyte, which has a higher density, diffuses from the pores of the plates into the interelectrode space and, as a result, the voltage across the battery will decrease.
Repeat the charging cycle. To fully restore the battery capacity, it is necessary to carry out from 4 to 6 cycles. During such cyclic charging, in the process of accumulating capacity of the battery, the density of the electrolyte increases. When the electrolyte density reaches the value that is normal for this type of battery, and the voltage on one of the sections is within 2, 5-2, 7V, the battery should be stopped charging.
Step 2
Charging with ammonia solution
The advantage of this method is that thanks to it, you can restore the battery capacity in about an hour. The disadvantage is the need to purchase an ammonia solution of Trilon B containing 2% Trilon B and 5 weight percent ammonia.
Charge a discharged battery. Drain electrolyte and rinse thoroughly with water 2-3 times. Pour in the ammonia solution of Trilon B. Leave the solution for 40-60 minutes. In the process of desulfation, fine splashes will appear on the surface of the solution and gas evolution will occur. The cessation of gas evolution will indicate the completion of the desulfation process. If necessary, the solution treatment can be repeated. Rinse the battery thoroughly with distilled water at least 3 times. Fill with electrolyte of nominal density. Charge the battery using the charger to the nominal capacity indicated in the technical data sheet.
