One of the most demanded devices in the field of trade and services is a barcode scanner. Most often, this device is used to receive and release goods by reading a barcode. It can be presented as a data acquisition terminal or as an IR scanner.

Instructions

Step 1

An infrared scanner is used, as a rule, to read information from barcodes covered with a special black film. But before starting work, the device must be connected to a computer or to a POS-terminal in the trading floor. Most often, IR scanners and their other varieties are connected to a computer using a keyboard wedge. This method is especially relevant if your scanner has a PS / 2 interface. In this case, be sure to turn off your computer. Then disconnect the keyboard from the system unit, connect the device to the vacated port, and directly to it - the keyboard.

Step 2

The second way to connect scanners is connected with the communication ports of the computer. When the barcode reader has an RS-232 interface, the best way to connect is to use the COM port. To do this, turn off the computer again and connect the barcode reader to the appropriate port. If your computer does not have a COM port, install a virtual COM port based on a COM-USB adapter.

Step 3

If you are using a scanner with a non-standard interface, turn off your computer and install the special interface board that is included with your device. Connect the barcode scanner to the interface board and turn on the computer. After that, start installing the software that is part of the device's configuration.

Step 4

After connecting the IR scanner to the computer, check it for clarity and functionality. To do this, run the terminal program and set the desired speed and parity readings. Then close the program and activate the device by placing the marked product in the range of the sensors. The IR scanner will immediately turn on and display the corresponding numbers on the screen.
