A new project from Google called Project Loon was created under the slogan "Internet for everyone" and aims to provide all of Sri Lanka with the Internet using balloons launched into the stratosphere.
All travelers who plan to go on vacation or wintering in Sri Lanka, as well as local residents of the island, will soon receive high-speed Internet throughout the state.
Such prospects became possible thanks to the Project Loon project from Google, which planned to launch Internet balls into the stratosphere and has already agreed on this with the government of Sri Lanka. The plan is to cover the entire island and each of its villages with the Internet in a few months. The project will be completed by March 2016. The government is confident that the special Loon balloon technology will help local ISPs reduce their costs and offer better rates to the public.

More than half of the world's inhabitants still do not have access to the Internet, despite the rapid development of technology. Project Loon is a network of Internet balloons traveling across the stratosphere. They will be able to provide people from rural and remote areas, as well as places of natural disasters with the necessary Internet access.

The balloons rise to the level of the stratosphere, taking off for 20 km, where there are no clouds and airplanes, but there are winds that will allow you to build the trajectory of the device. Thoroughly thought-out software algorithms for the movement of the balls accurately take into account their speed and route, providing an organized communication network. Partnerships with providers will allow people to use all the possibilities of the World Wide Web directly from smartphones and PCs using LTE technology. One sphere is capable of covering an area of the earth with a diameter of 40 km.
The project originally started in New Zealand in 2013, where the Loon balloons were pilot tested. They were then used in northeastern Brazil and the Central Valley of California.
The balloons are designed to withstand air pressure, exposure to UV rays, temperature extremes of up to 80 ° C, and can stay in the stratosphere for up to 100 days. When fully inflated, the Loon is 15 meters wide and 12 meters high. Due to the special design, after the end of operation, the balls themselves return to the ground, freeing from the shell.
The electronics are powered by solar panels that are mounted at a steep angle and effectively capture sunlight even on short winter days at high latitudes. The power is enough for the whole night due to the high power of lithium-ion batteries.
There is also a parallel project called Internet.org, which is supported by Mark Zuckerberg himself. Its developers are trying to create an affordable model for providing the Internet for the entire planet. Already, unmanned drones powered by solar batteries from Internet.org have been deployed in Indinesia, Colombia, India and other countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia.
