A midi keyboard is an electronic device that can turn physical effects, such as adjusting the volume or pressing a key, into an ordered sequence of digital operations.

It is necessary

  • - computer keyboard;
  • - non-working synthesizer / electric piano;
  • - soldering iron.

Instructions

Step 1

Use a special program to make a midi keyboard out of a regular computer keyboard. For example, FL studio, Bome's Mouse Keyboard, Virtual_MIDI_Keyboard. Download the Virtual midi piano app by going to vmpk.sourceforge.net. This program will allow you to remap the keys of your keyboard to use it as a midi.

Step 2

Find an old non-working synthesizer, remove a row of keys from it, discard the rest. Any device will suit you, the most important thing is that at the moment you press the key, two contacts are closed. In this case, you can use a children's toy electric piano to make a midi keyboard.

Step 3

Take an unnecessary computer keyboard, it must be working and have a USB output. This is necessary for the simultaneous operation of the computer keyboard and midi. Disassemble it, you will see that at the moment the button is pressed, two contacts are closed on different "films", this starts from the board, which, in turn, also has two sides with contacts. On a piece of paper, write down which contacts correspond to which buttons. Follow the order of the keys so you don't get confused.

Step 4

Solder stripped wires 15-25 centimeters long to each pin of the board. This is to avoid soldering the wires from the piano keys to the board, as there is little room and it will be easier to twist them. Take the keys from the piano, solder the wiring to each pin of the keys. You will end up with a row of bristled keys.

Step 5

Take the schematic sheet and twist the wires from the piano with the wires from the computer keyboard. Open the Virtual midi piano application and go to the "Edit" tab, select the "Keybind" item and assign the desired buttons one by one. Exit the program. The midi keyboard is now complete.
