Step 1
Before purchasing a Wi-Fi router, determine the characteristics of this device that are most suitable for the equipment you are connecting to. Carefully read the instructions for the laptops and mobile phones that you plan to connect to the wireless access point.

Find out the types of security and radio signals that phones and laptops can work with. Find the matching options. For example, it may happen that all wireless devices can only receive a signal from an 802.11g network with a WEP security type. Purchase a Wi-Fi router capable of creating an access point with the desired specifications.
Step 3
Connect the purchased equipment to AC power. Locate the WAN (Internet, DSL) connector on the device. Connect the provider's cable to it.

Connect a network cable to the Ethernet or LAN connector, and connect the other end to the laptop's network adapter. Turn on both devices and launch a browser on the laptop. Enter the IP address of the router, which can be found in the user manual for this device, into the address bar of your browser.
Step 5
The web-based interface of the router's Wi-Fi settings will open in front of you. Select WAN (Internet Connection Setup) menu to set up Internet connection. Set the parameters of the necessary items of this menu, based on the recommendations and requirements of the specialists of your provider. Save the settings.
Step 6
Go to the Wireless Connection Setup menu. Set the access point parameters with which the wireless adapters of mobile phones and notebooks will work. Save network settings and reboot the Wi-Fi router.

Open the Wi-Fi network settings on your mobile phone. Add a new wireless network. Provide a name, select an authentication protocol, and enter a password.
