Modern e-books have a wide range of capabilities. They allow you not only to read, but also to take notes, go online, listen to music. And of course, they support a huge number of formats.
Instructions
Step 1
TXT is a format supported by almost all e-books. Such files take up very little space in the device's memory. They open extremely quickly. But they are endowed with a significant drawback: the lack of formatting, markup, alignment and hyphenation. Reading books in this format is hard. Text that looks like a flat canvas is poorly perceived.
Step 2
One of the most convenient and common file formats for reading on electronic devices is FB2. It does not support numbered lists, so it is poorly suited for encyclopedias and textbooks. For reading poetry collections, it is also not the best option, since it ignores the author's formatting of poems. But it is almost perfect for most of the prose fiction. The FB2 format stores genre and author information. The books are structured: there is a cover, a breakdown into chapters, footnotes, illustrations are displayed.
Step 3
Another popular e-book format is ePub. Supported by almost all readers. It is a complex of files. If you open a document as an archive, you can see texts, pictures, fonts, service files. Books like ePub can be quite complex formatting. The files contain metadata: the title and language of the document, sometimes - the name of the author, translator, genre of the work, etc.
Step 4
The DjVu format is used to store scanned versions of magazines and books. The documents are tightly compressed. DjVu files are poorly suited for reading works using readers. The screen of such devices is too small to allow normal display of pages. Old books are usually distributed in this format.
Step 5
PDF files are also poorly readable on e-books. They are very large, so the download takes quite a long time. In addition, you cannot change the font size. By zooming in on the page, the reader will be forced to view it in parts.
Step 6
RTF is a universal format for text documents. It is good in cases when it is necessary for the file to open without conversion on most devices. For e-books, it is optional.
Step 7
Not all e-books support DOC texts. As a rule, such files are translated using special programs in ePub.
Step 8
In addition to text documents, some readers can open images (BMP, GIF, JPEG), sound files (MP3, WAV).
