A modern cycling computer is an electronic device that allows you to receive information about the parameters of movement while riding a bicycle. It usually takes a while to install the computer on the bike.
Installation rules for cycling computers
Usually, a bike computer always comes with a special mounting pad, a reed switch and a magnet on the knitting needles, pads and ties.
It is theoretically possible to install the bike computer anywhere on the wheel spoke. Nevertheless, it is recommended to place the magnet closer to the bushing in order to decrease the speed and increase the time it takes for the reed switch to operate. If you choose to mount the computer near the rim when the wheel is large, the readings may be inaccurate.
So, first you need to attach the bike computer sensor to the mounting bolt or fork. Be sure to adjust the position of the magnet and reed switch. Almost all wired computers come with a special protective plastic jacket that secures the wire securely to the frame. In this case, the wire can be wrapped with a special transparent polyester tape. By the way, before winding the wire, you should check the cleanliness of the plug and frame. After installing the magnet and reed switch, the front wheel must be removed for easier wire routing.
Installing the bike computer from the front
It is recommended to lay the wire along the inner side of the blade of the plug. In this position, it will practically not be visible. Installation of the sensor is also allowed in the front part of the fork blade. It is better to leave a small piece of wire between the sensor of the cycling computer and the place where the wire is attached. This is done in case of displacement of the sensor.
Better to attach the wire to the front brake cable. So, it will be maximally protected in length. If you frequently need to repair your bike, the cable should be wrapped around the brake cable. This will make it much easier to detach. If the computer needs to be mounted on a bicycle with rim brakes, the magnet and sensor are recommended to be mounted on the left side. The easiest way is to put the bike computer on the suspension forks. But the sensors of some electronic devices simply do not fit such plugs. Then you have to use the clutch of the old front derailleur to make a solid computer mount.
Installing the bike computer from the back
Rear-mounted bike computers should run under the chainstays of the rear triangle. There they will be almost invisible. On mountain or hybrid bikes, the wire can be attached to the shift cable.
If this is a bike without handlebar shifters, run a wire from the bottom tube to the bottom of the front brake cable. Then it can be put up. It is recommended to leave a piece of loose wire. Also, a small gap should be left between the loose loop and the tire. And be sure to make sure that the loop does not interfere with gear changes.
