Step 1
Dial the main telephone number of the company. Wait for the answer to the call and listen to the greeting of the answering machine. As a rule, at the end of the message there is a listing of the main extensions, so you can compare the correctness of the one that you have written down. Wait until you are prompted to dial the required short number.
Step 2
Set your telephone to dial tone mode. This is necessary because office automatic telephone exchanges use exactly the tone mode to redirect a call to a specific phone. Press on your device the button with an asterisk drawn below the main dial keys. Also, some phones have a special Pulse-Tone button that switches the phone from one mode to another. Remember that if your device was originally working in tone mode, then you do not need to switch anything.
Step 3
Wait a few seconds for the phone to switch to the new dialing mode. Enter the extension you want to call. In this case, characteristic short signals of various frequencies will be heard, which indicates a successful switch to tone mode.
Step 4
Wait for an answer and make sure that the PBX has correctly connected you with the right person. There are times when automatic switching does not work and the system connects you to another extension. If this happens, then ask the answering secretary or other employee to independently redirect your call to the desired extension number. As a rule, such a request is treated with understanding, since this problem is quite common.

Do not call extensions from your mobile phone. Firstly, it is quite expensive, since you have to call a landline number. Secondly, a conversation with an answering machine sometimes lasts a long time, and the cost of a call sometimes includes the moment of switching to an extension number, as a result of which you may be disconnected due to a lack of funds on the account. Third, not all mobile phones allow dialing a tone extension.
