At first glance, it makes no sense to indicate polarity on the dynamics, since an alternating voltage is supplied to it. But when there are several dynamic heads in the speaker system, they must be switched on in phase. It is customary to designate the polarity at the terminals of the head, at which the diffuser moves forward.

Step 1

Make a special probe to test the speakers. To do this, take an ordinary pocket torch based on an incandescent bulb. Remove the switch from it, and instead of the latter, connect two probes. They must have insulated handles, since at the moment the voltage is turned off, a self-induction voltage arises at the head terminals. Check the polarity of the voltage across the probes with a test voltmeter. Mark them accordingly. Make sure that if the probes are short-circuited, the light is on.

Step 2

Turn off the amplifier and the entire stereo complex (including from the socket). Disconnect both speaker leads from the rest of your speaker circuits. Connect the probes to the head leads without touching either the latter or the metal parts of the probes. At this point, carefully look at the diffuser. If it moves outward when connected and inward when disconnected, the polarity is correct. If the opposite picture is observed, change the polarity of connecting the probes, and then repeat the check. Then mark on the frame of the dynamic head with an indelible felt-tip pen the polarity corresponding to the polarity of connecting the probes.

Step 3

Do the same for the rest of the speakers within the limit of one speaker. Regardless of how they are connected (directly or through a crossover), connect them in phase so that the red contact on the back of the speaker corresponds to the positive leads of the heads.

Step 4

Also check and modify the second speaker if necessary. After closing the enclosures of both speakers, check if they are correctly connected to the amplifier. There are special red marks on the cable that makes such a connection. In all cases, connect the labeled conductor to the red terminal, and the unlabeled conductor to the black terminal.

Step 5

Turn on the stereo complex. Compare its sound with the one that took place before the rework.
