Apple representatives have long been at war with Samsung, accusing them of illegal use of patents. Apple's legal claim to ban sales of the Galaxy Tab 10 was approved, and later a ban was issued on the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone in the United States.

According to The Wall Street Journal, this was the first time Apple did something like this in the American market, before that similar bans the company had to achieve only in other countries. The ban on the manufacture and sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and any similar device will remain in effect until the opening of the hearing on July 30. However, Apple will first be required to post a security deposit of more than $ 2.5 million. This amount will be transferred to Samsung if the innocence of the Korean company is revealed in the course of the proceedings.

Apple is indicting Samsung for infringing a design patent that outlines the back, front and sides of an iPad-like device. Last April, Apple filed similar charges against a competitor for the first time.

Analysts note that this decision is unlikely to affect the course of about thirty proceedings on patent issues between the two companies and Samsung's revenue. Despite the Korean company supplying several different tablets to the US market, their sales volumes are significantly weaker than those of Apple's iPad.

Samsung gets more revenue from smartphones and TVs. Recently, however, Apple also demanded a ban on sales of Samsung's new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III. Prior to that, Apple managed to delay the acceptance in the United States of smartphones by the Taiwanese company HTC, which it also accuses of illegal use of its proprietary technology line.

In September 2011, Apple secured a ban on Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales in Germany.
