Despite the high durability of the latest generation CD and DVD discs, their protective coating remains extremely thin, so it is very difficult to protect discs from scratches. The least dangerous are those that are directed from the center of the disc to its edge. Such transverse scratches do not greatly affect the process of reading the available information. Longitudinal scratches cause fears, they cause more harm, even if insignificant in size. You can try to remove those and other scratches yourself.

Necessary

  • - polishing agent
  • - soft tissue
  • - accuracy and patience

Instructions

Step 1

Place the disc upside down on a flat, smooth and hard surface. If the surface is soft, you may inadvertently press the disc excessively while working, and it will crack. If the surface is not smooth, there is a risk of scratching the top working layer of the disc, which is much thinner than the polycarbonate layer from which you will remove scratches.

Step 2

Prepare a polishing compound. To do this, dilute toothpaste with water or dissolve GOI paste in white spirit. Polishing of the protective layer is ready. Make sure that the toothpaste is of high quality, homogeneous consistency, so that large abrasive particles are not visible in it. Otherwise, you risk creating new scratches on the disc.

Step 3

Dip a piece of soft cloth (lint-free!) Into the polishing compound and with light movements directed perpendicular to the tracks (i.e. from the center of the disc to the edge and vice versa), polish the surface. Excessive efforts are useless, everything is done freely and smoothly.

Step 4

If you are not very pleased with the result, you can repeat the polishing process using a special tool - polish to remove scratches from CD / DVD discs. The tool is sold in computer stores.

Step 5

Remove any remaining polish from the disc. To do this, gently rinse the disc with warm water (no soap and powder!). Let it dry completely and buff again, this time with just a dry soft cloth.

Step 6

Insert the disc into the drive and check. If the result is negative, you can repeat the process from the very beginning. Be patient and the disk will start. And then hurry up to transfer all its contents, for the restoration of which you so persistently fought, to another medium - hard drive, flash drive, etc.
