Over the past few years, technology has brought us some of the most advanced and powerful devices, useful in many ways. We are talking, of course, about GPS navigators. They can be customized for convenient travel and many other features. You should know in advance how to install maps in your GPS device.
Necessary
- - Navigator;
- - computer;
- - paper map.
Instructions
Step 1
Think about how you will install new cards. They can be scanned and downloaded as images, downloaded from the Internet, or purchased with a software package with pre-installed maps. Turn on your GPS device and select one of the available options for adding new maps from the menu.
Step 2
Purchase a map of the specific area that you need from the navigator manufacturer's website. There are many different versions of maps for European and other countries. Some of them are already included in the device, but some will need to be purchased separately. Maps of specific locations can usually be quickly searched for using keywords.
Step 3
Connect the GPS navigator to your computer using the supplied cable. The device will scan your hard drive for new cards and start downloading them automatically.
Step 4
Scan your home paper GPS map if you can't find an electronic version. Select the desired area and place it on the scanner. Position the map so that it faces north.
Step 5
Save the resulting image as a bitmap file. Most GPS devices understand the JPEG format.
Step 6
Determine key points on the terrain on a paper map, find out their latitude and longitude. Enter the received data in the form of a list into a text file created on your computer and save it with the "HTM" extension.
Step 7
Create a new folder on your GPS device. Load the created raster map file and a text file with coordinates into it from your computer. To view a downloaded map, simply select it from the appropriate menu. Make sure the device reads the specified coordinates and the image is viewed clearly and vividly. Thus, you have programmatically installed the map on your navigator.
