In recent years, GPS navigators have become quite widespread. They are convenient and can be customized. Through simple manipulations, you can also load maps into the navigator yourself.
It is necessary
- - GPS navigator;
- - Personal Computer;
- - paper map.
Instructions
Step 1
Think about how you will install new cards. You can scan them and download them as images, download them from the Internet, or buy a software package with the maps already installed. Turn on the navigator, then select the desired option for adding new maps to the menu from several offered.
Step 2
Purchase a map of the area you need on the website of the navigator manufacturer. There are many versions of maps, both European and other countries. Some of them are already included in the navigator, but some others need to be purchased separately. Maps of certain places can also be found on the Internet, and quite quickly - by keywords.
Step 3
Connect the navigation device to a personal computer using the supplied cable. The navigator will scan your PC hard drive for new maps, and then automatically start downloading them.
Step 4
If you have a paper map of the area you want at home, scan it. Position the map so that it is oriented to the north, if possible.
Step 5
Next, save the scanned image in JPEG format, as most GPS navigators support viewing images in this format.
Step 6
On a paper map, determine key points in a given area, find out their coordinates (latitude, longitude). Enter the received data in the form of a list in a text file created on a computer. Save this file in HTM format.
Step 7
Create a new folder on the GPS device. Now load the map image and a textbook with coordinates from your computer into it. To view the downloaded map, select it from the list in the corresponding menu. Make sure that the device reads the coordinates that you specified, and the picture is viewed clearly and brightly enough. This method is, of course, more time consuming than downloading maps from the Internet. However, he has the right to life and can help you out in the event that you cannot find this or that card on the Internet, or you simply do not have access to it.
