The iPod and iPad are two fundamentally different devices with different functions. The iPod is used to play multimedia files (music and video). The iPad is a tablet computer that allows you to work with documents, check e-mail and use video communication. However, with the release of the iPod Touch, the differences between devices have diminished.
iPod
The iPod is a line of Apple devices that are media players with expanded storage space that can store a large amount of information in the form of music and video files. The latest line of iPod Touch comes with iOS, which allows you to download a variety of applications and access the Internet.
The first line of iPods was released in 2001. At that time, the devices had 5 and 10 GB of memory and supported playback of the most common at that time WAV, MP3, AAC and AIFF. The players provided a relatively long battery life in playback mode (12 hours). The next generations of iPod were released every year and were characterized by an increase in the number of supported formats, features and storage capacity. The iPod Video, released in 2005, was able to play video files on its screen and was supplied with a hard drive with 30, 60 or 80 GB depending on the cost. The company also launched the Mini, Shuffle, Nano and Touch player lines. The modern Touch is the flagship device of the line running on iOS, supports downloading applications from the App Store and has a full-size screen for playing music and working with programs.
iPad
IPad is a tablet computer from Apple that is designed to work on the Internet and edit office documents. Unlike the iPod, the iPad is much larger (7 to 9.7 inches). For the first time the tablet was presented in 2010 and at the moment the newest version of the tablet is the iPad Air, which belongs to the 5th generation.
The device runs on the iOS operating system and supports most of its functions. On the front side of the iPad is an additional camera that allows you to make video calls. The size of the display allows you to comfortably browse the web and watch videos. The iPad Air has built-in stereo speakers that let you listen to music. The built-in player supports M4V for video and AAC, MP3, WAV and AA for music.
IPad also has a built-in GPS receiver and the ability to work with Wi-Fi networks. If there is an appropriate connector, a SIM card can be installed in the iPad to access the Internet via 3G and 4G mobile networks. This feature was not implemented on the iPod.
