Routers or routers are used to connect multiple computers to the Internet and combine them into a local area network. This allows you not to conclude several contracts with the provider, thereby saving money.
Necessary
- - router;
- - network cables.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose a router that suits your needs. Naturally, if you plan to include mobile computers in your network, then purchase a router that can create wireless access points. Connect the selected equipment to AC power. To connect 2-3 devices, you can get by with a budget Wi-Fi router model.
Step 2
Connect a network cable from your computer to the Ethernet port of the router. Open the manual for this network equipment and find its IP address in it. Usually this is IP 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Enter the desired value in the address bar of the Internet browser and press the Enter key. Wait until the web interface of the network equipment settings opens.
Step 3
Open the Internet Connection Setup (WAN) menu. Connect the ISP cable to the Internet (WAN, DSL) connector. Configure the connection to the server. Select the appropriate type of data transfer (PPPoE, L2TP, etc.). Be sure to provide a username and password, enable Firewall, NAT and DHCP functions. Click the Apply or Save button to save your internet connection settings.
Step 4
Open the Wireless Connection Setup (Wi-Fi) menu. Create your own wireless hotspot. Select from the existing options the types of security and radio signal. Set a strong password to prevent other people's laptops from connecting to your network. Save the menu settings.
Step 5
Restart the Wi-Fi router for the device to apply the configured settings. Wait for the connection to the server to complete. Connect to a wireless access point. Connect desktop computers to the Ethernet ports of the router. Check the ability to exchange information between devices on the network. Make sure all computers can access the internet.
