Step 1
Modern cameras have a much higher sensitivity and dynamic range than many webcams, so even in low light, the camera image can be quite clear. However, low resolution can affect picture quality. In live video mode, the camera is very power consuming and may need to be connected to a power source during operation.
Step 2
Take the manual from your camera, read it carefully, and make sure it actually supports webcam mode. This can make it much easier for you to complete the task at hand, since the manufacturer took care in advance to make the connection as easy as possible.
Step 3
To work with the described camera in webcam mode (if it does not support the UVC protocol), install the driver that must be supplied with the camera. If not, surf the Internet and download the driver you need. Install it using the computer control panel.
Step 4
Take the cable that came with the camera when you purchased the camera. You will need it to connect the device. Connect one end of the cable to your camera and the other to a USB jack on your computer. Remember that when you connect the camera to your computer, it must be turned on and in movie mode.
Step 5
After connecting the camera, make sure that your computer recognizes the connected device (you will see information about this in the lower right corner of the monitor). That's it, your camera is ready to act as a webcam. Open the program in which you need a webcam and select your photo in the device settings.

As for cameras that do not have the required “webcam” function, you can work with them too. However, this will take a little more effort and time. Also, you may need to buy a video capture device and install several additional programs on your computer in order to work successfully.
