If your computer is connected to the mains directly, without using an uninterruptible power supply, then there are often situations in which the electrolytic capacitors of the power circuits on the motherboard fail. The malfunction can be diagnosed by the swollen upper ends. It is very difficult to replace capacitors in the absence of a soldering station, since the board is multilayer and overheating is fraught with the loss of the entire motherboard. What should be done in this case?
Necessary
- Soldering iron with a fine tip
- Side cutters
- Sewing needle
Instructions
Step 1
We remove the swollen capacitors from the motherboard, having previously cut them into pieces with side cutters.
Step 2
We carefully solder and remove each leg of the damaged part separately.
Step 3
We take a sewing needle and carefully pick the solder frozen in the metallized holes to free the holes for installing a new capacitor. Due to its softness, the solder is easily inferior to the gland of the needle.
Step 4
Whether or not the leg will pass into the vacant hole, you can measure it with a soldered leg from the old capacitor, after removing the remaining solder from it.
Step 5
Having thus freed all the holes from the solder, we insert new capacitors and solder them in place. The motherboard has been repaired.
