For greater comfort in the dark, it is sometimes necessary to increase the degree of illumination of certain areas in the vehicle interior. This can be done using automotive small-sized or strip lights that use incandescent bulbs, fluorescent lamps or LEDs.

Necessary

Automotive (designed for a voltage of 12 volts) fluorescent or strip LED lamps of the required length and color, connecting wires, a multimeter, a soldering iron, solder, rosin

Instructions

Step 1

Use fluorescent or LED strip lights to improve the overall lighting in the vehicle interior, as they consume significantly less current than incandescent bulbs. Depending on the size of the luminaires, fix them on the side posts or in any convenient place in the cabin using metal screws. LED strip lights usually have a self-adhesive backing. To mount such a lamp, thoroughly clean and degrease the surface on which you will mount it. Then remove the protective film from the adhesive layer and press it against the cleaned surface.

Step 2

Connect, observing the polarity, parallel to the standard interior lighting lamp. Determine the polarity of the power supply with a multimeter. To do this, connect a black test lead to the common terminal of the device, and a red test lead to the voltage measurement lead. Turn on the device by turning the knob to the sector for measuring DC voltage, and set it opposite the number 20 (measurement limit 20 Volts). Connect the test leads to the standard interior lamp. Turn it on. If the device display shows a voltage with a minus sign, then the red probe of the device is connected to the negative wire, and the black probe to the positive wire of the luminaire power supply. If the minus sign is not displayed on the display, then the polarity of the connection is opposite.

Step 3

If you want the new light to turn on independently of the standard interior light, set the small-sized car switch on the dashboard to 2 positions. Solder 2 wires to the switch terminals. Connect one wire from the switch to the positive terminal of the luminaire. Connect the second wire to the positive wire of the cigarette lighter. Connect the negative power cable to the vehicle ground.
