There are several ways to self-clean the VCR heads. This can be done both with the help of special video cassettes intended for cleaning, and with a swab dipped in alcohol.

Instructions

Step 1

The first method is to use cleaning videotapes. To clean with their help, you do not need to disassemble the device - this is the plus of this method. Insert a cleaning cassette into the VCR and start it. Wait until it is played from beginning to end. Do not reuse the same cassette. In this case, all the dirt collected by it will again be on the heads of the VCR. It is also recommended that you read the operating instructions before using the cleaning videotape to avoid other mistakes.

Step 2

If the cleaning cassette doesn't work, use the second method. It consists in manual cleaning of the VCR heads. To do this, you need a small stick, a rag or cambric rag, and alcohol. Prepare all materials before starting work.

Step 3

Remove the top cover from the VCR. Do this carefully so as not to damage the device's microcircuit. Inside you will see a drum with video heads. Next, take the prepared stick and wrap a rag or cambric rag around it. Soak it in alcohol (use cologne as a last resort). Then, gently wipe the surface of the VCR heads. Do not press on them, clean them with slow forward movements. Take your time to avoid damaging anything inside the device, including the heads themselves.

Step 4

After that, prepare another swab by wrapping a rag around the stick. Do not soak it in alcohol, but leave it dry and wipe the heads with gentle movements. Do not click on them, otherwise you may disable them.

Step 5

After the procedure, without closing the top cover, insert a regular video cassette into the VCR and start playback. If you have cleaned the heads correctly, the image quality will be good - you can screw the cap back. If not, repeat the cleaning procedure again.
