Every year it becomes more and more difficult to navigate the variety of portable computers. The market is oversaturated with similar offers, and it can be difficult for an inexperienced user to make the right choice when buying a laptop. In order not to fall for the bait of PR people, and buy what you really need, you need to understand the technical characteristics.
Instructions
Step 1
Follow the golden rule of choosing computer technology: proceed from the tasks set. You cannot be guided solely by the cost and degree of brand promotion.
Step 2
Decide on a laptop family. Manufacturers develop models for home and office, for gamers and ordinary users. Choose a format - there is no point in overpaying for an ultrabook if a modest small-format laptop is enough for you.
Step 3
Explore the technical specifications of the model range. Prioritize: what is more important to you - performance, battery capacity, amount of RAM, or maybe screen quality?
Step 4
Keep in mind that processor power is a key metric for any computer. Processors are selected based on three criteria: manufacturer, family, and clock speed. The two leading processor manufacturers are Intel and AMD, both of which can be divided into three families: for the office, for gamers and for professionals.
Step 5
Memory. The law is at work here: the more, the better. In a decent model, the amount of RAM and memory of the hard drive should be at least 2 GB and 250 GB, respectively.
Step 6
Understand the types of graphics cards. They can be of three types: integrated, discrete and hybrid. The former are, as a rule, in budget models and are rather mediocre. Discrete cards are most commonly found in gaming and multimedia laptops and provide much higher image quality. This is especially noticeable when watching HD videos and when playing the latest 3D games.
Step 7
If you are a music lover or do music, pay attention to the sound card. They can be external and internal. The first option will satisfy the needs of the average user, the second is intended for all those who have high demands on sound quality.
Step 8
If the quality of the screen and adequate color reproduction are important to you, please note that the vast majority of the models on the market do not differ in this indicator. Almost all laptops are equipped with simple TN-matrices. The maximum color gamut, viewing angle and clarity can only be found in models with IPS matrices. As a rule, their presence significantly increases the cost of a laptop.
Step 9
Don't overlook custom characteristics. These include such minor but important parameters as the ergonomics of the keyboard, the material from which the case is made, etc.
Step 10
Explore the multimedia capabilities of the model in question. Having a webcam will be a huge plus, but the speakers located underneath will surely be annoying.
