Step 1
Purchase a charger of the type that will work with your rechargeable batteries. For example, if you have NiMH AA batteries with a milliampere characteristic (mAh) - 2650, i.e. quite powerful, you will need a high-rate NiMH battery charger. Otherwise, the batteries will take too long to charge.
Step 2
Start timing. Charge the batteries for the number of hours specified in the instructions for the charger. The charging time depends on the capacity of your batteries. Note that most modern chargers have a charging indicator - you don't have to calculate the time. Also, do not be afraid of the "memory effect" (loss of battery capacity as a result of a new charge when the previous charge is not completely used up) - modern batteries are protected from it. The only thing that can negatively affect the capacity of rechargeable batteries is charging for a very long time (several weeks, months).
