When recorded in full format, the wired telephone number carries information about its location. The so-called area code, consisting of several digits and located at the beginning of the number, is responsible for this.

Step 1
Please note that it is impossible to determine the city by the cell phone number. In the best case, you can only find out the name of the operator and the region in which the SIM card is registered.
Step 2
Since both codes and intercity phone numbers are variable in length (the first are from three to five digits, and the second, depending on the city, from five to seven), it is sometimes difficult to separate the code from the intracity number. Therefore, landline phone numbers, unlike cell phones, are usually written by placing the code in brackets or separating it from the number not with hyphens, but with spaces. It is these numbers that you use to search for a city by code.

Go to the page linked below. Find the drop-down list that has City by default selected. Select the value "by code" in it.
Step 4
Enter the code in the input field to the left of the drop-down list. Click the Find button. Shortly thereafter, the page will reload and you will see a table with three columns: City, Region, and Code. Read the name of the city in the first column. Please note that some cities have not one, but two codes.
Step 5
If, in addition to the city, you need to find out the cost of a call to the number you need, call the support service of the cellular or wired operator whose services you use. Following the prompts of the autoinformer, get a connection with the consultant, and then tell him that you are going to call a landline phone located in the city you found earlier by the code. If necessary, also tell us what tariff plan you are served on. Soon the consultant will find information about the price of a call minute and will inform you of it.
Step 6
Dial the number as follows: from a landline phone - dial 8, wait for a dial tone, and then dial the code and number, and from a cell phone - dial 8 or +7, code and number, and then press the call button. To dial a plus, press and hold the key with an asterisk or zero for a long time, depending on the model of the device.
