You can restore the previous system settings on computers running Windows using the built-in System Restore tool. No additional software is required.
Instructions
Step 1
Run the built-in System Restore feature. To do this, in Windows XP, call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button, and go to the "All Programs" item. Expand the "Accessories" link and select the "System Restore" section. An alternative way to launch the desired function can be to select the "Help and Support" item in the main "Start" menu and open the "Select a task" section. Specify the command "Undo Changes Using System Restore". Another method is to return to the main Start menu and go to the Run dialog. Type% SystemRoot% system32

strui.exe in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the utility by clicking the OK button.
Step 2
Create a restore point manually. To do this, select the "Create a restore point" option and confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the "Next" button. Type the desired definition of the point to be created in the "Recovery checkpoint description" line and save the changes by clicking the "Create" button.
Step 3
Press the "Home" button to return to the main utility window and select the "Restore an earlier state of the computer" option. Confirm your choice by clicking Next and enter the desired date or name of the restore point in the list of the next dialog box. Confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the "Next" button in the system prompt window, and wait until the recovery process is completed. An indicator of this will be a reboot of the system in automatic mode.
Step 4
Please note that the utility also provides the option to undo the performed restore if the result is unsatisfactory, and select a different checkpoint. It should also be remembered that programs installed after creating a restore point may be lost, so it is recommended that you first create copies of the required applications on removable media.
