Telnet is a network service that allows you to connect to another computer over the Internet. In this case, the administrator of the remote computer must enable permission for such an action. Initially, the function of this program is disabled, so you need to make certain settings to run Telnet.
Instructions
Step 1
Go to the Start menu, which is at the lower left edge of the taskbar. After that, go to the "Control Panel" section, where select "Programs". Here you need to click on the item "Turn Windows features on or off."
Step 2
If you have an administrator password on your computer, then enter it, otherwise just go to the directory. The "Windows Components" dialog box will appear, in which you must check the box next to the "Telnet Client" inscription and click the "OK" button. The computer will start installing the application, which may take some time.
Step 3
Close all windows. Go to "Start" again and enter the line "services.msc." In the file search window. A dialog box will appear, in which it will be written "User Account Management" and described the action to be taken. If it refers to starting the Telnet service, then click Continue. Otherwise, start your search again, perhaps you entered the query text incorrectly.
Step 4
The Telnet program will appear, on the shortcut of which you need to right-click and run the "Properties" command. Open the "Startup type" tab and set the desired settings. You can select the "Auto" option, with which the program will start automatically when Windows starts up. The Manual option allows you to work with Telnet on demand. If you do not want your computer to have the ability to remotely control, then click "Disabled".
Step 5
Start Telnet program. To do this, in the Properties dialog box, click on the Start button. You can also go to the main Services page and click on the start button, which looks like a triangle.
Step 6
Control the Telnet program using the command line. To do this, you need to open an elevated command prompt, i.e. run it as administrator. In the window that appears, enter the “net start telnet” command, which will start the Telnet application.
