A monitor with built-in speakers takes up less desk space than separate speakers and a conventional monitor. It connects to the computer with two cables, one of which supplies the image signal, and the other - the sound signal.
Instructions
Step 1
Just as with connecting a conventional monitor, make sure that its video input interface matches the output type of your computer's video card.
Step 2
Power off both the monitor and the computer. Shut down the operating system on the computer properly before disconnecting power from the computer.
Step 3
Connect the video input of the monitor (VGA or DVI) to the corresponding output of the video card in the usual way, as if the monitor were without speakers.
Step 4
Connect the supplied cable to the audio input of your monitor. On the opposite side, plug this cord into the speaker output on your computer sound card.
Step 5
If you have lost the audio cord that came with your monitor, make it yourself. The design of this cord depends on the input jacks on the monitor. If it has two RCA input jacks, use two appropriate plugs and one stereo headphone jack. Connect the common contacts of all plugs together. Connect the center pin of one of the RCA plugs to one of the signal pins of the headphone plug, and connect the center pin of the other RCA plug to the other signaling pin of the headphone plug. If the monitor has an input jack similar to the one installed on the sound card, purchase two stereo headphone plugs and simply connect their pins of the same name to each other.
Step 6
To adjust the volume on most monitors, use the arrow buttons on the front panel instead of the knob like on speakers.
Step 7
If your monitor has a jack on the front or side, you can plug in headphones if necessary. This does not change the way the volume is adjusted. If desired, attach other speakers in the same way, and you can adjust the volume in them directly from the front of the monitor.
