Each new IOS distribution offers new functions and capabilities that were not available before, so it is advisable to update your devices in a timely manner. Fortunately, the process of updating the operating system on an iPad or iPhone is pretty straightforward.
In order to update iOS to version 7.1, you will need about 2.5 GB of disk space, so you will have to free up some space if your gadget is full. You can check the available space by going to Settings -> General -> Statistics.
Today, two methods are used to help you update your iOS - you can use a Wi-Fi connection or connect your gadget to a PC and update through iTunes.
Updating via Wi-Fi
If your iPad or iPhone battery is less than 50% charged, you should connect it to the charger while updating.
Go to the settings of your gadget and go to the item "General" in the menu on the left. The second item from the top will be the "Software Update" item. Click on this tab and select Download and Install. After that, the IOS update will begin, which will take several minutes, during this process the gadget will restart.
If the Download and Install button is grayed out, try to clear some space. Basically, this requirement is temporary, so free space will become available again after installing IOS 7.1.
Updating using iTunes
First, connect your iPad or iPhone to your PC or Mac using the cable supplied with your purchase. This will allow iTunes to connect to your device.
You also need to install the latest version of iTunes. You will be prompted to download it when the service starts. After the application is installed, the system may ask you for the iCloud settings when you sign in to your iTunes account.
After iTunes is launched, the service should automatically detect that there is a new version of the operating system, and will offer to switch to it. Select Cancel. Before updating, you will need to manually sync your gadget to make sure everything is in order.
After closing the dialog box, iTunes should sync automatically with your device. If it doesn't, you can manually do it by selecting your device from the list of available devices.
After syncing is complete, open your device in iTunes. You can find it in the menu on the left side. On the device screen, click on the "Update" button. After asking if you would like to upgrade, the installation process will begin. It will take a few minutes, and during this time, your iPad or iPhone may restart several times.
