Just a few years ago, analog video recorders were in great demand. There are quite a lot of recordings left on large VHS cassettes. Films, concerts, memorable moments of family life - this is not a complete list of what the owners of the once popular technology would like to keep. They can be digitized and burned to disk.

It is necessary

  • - video recorder;
  • - a computer;
  • - video capture card;
  • - food drive;
  • - UleadVideoStudio, VirtualDub programs;
  • - K-lite codec pack.

Instructions

Step 1

Since you are dealing with analog recording, you need to do video capture. Connect your VCR to your video capture card. Most often, the output of the VCR is connected to the input of the card, and the audio output is connected to the audio input of the sound card. It is advisable to immediately adjust the levels.

Step 2

Connect a tape recorder. Use the software supplied with the capture card to determine which system the recording was made on. It can be PAL or NTSC. They differ from each other both in the aspect ratio and the number of frames per second, and in the way of color rendering. It is necessary to digitize in the system in which the recording was made on the cassette. Set the appropriate parameters in the capture card utilities.

Step 3

Open the UleadVideoStudio program. In it, also set the data about the system. Install the digitizing codec. If there is a lot of space on your hard disk, and the recording is not very long, choose the DV codec. It will give the best quality. However, it is possible that the recording will have to be compressed for playback. Therefore, you can immediately capture video in mp1 or mp2 format. Select the "Record with sound" option. Start the VCR for playback. Digitization started.

Step 4

You should have a file on your hard disk in the format you have set, with the avi or mp extension. Decide on which device you will play it. It can be a computer, standard or universal DVD player. For a standard player, burn a disc in VCD or DVD standard. Both the one and the other disc can be created in the UleadVideoStudio program and recorded in it. If you want to view the recording on a computer or a universal video player, you can convert the file to avi format.

Step 5

Please note that the recording quality on the VCR is rather poor, but some codec packages allow it to be slightly improved. For example, the DivX5 codec allows you to double the resolution. Before use, you need to check whether your recorder will accept this codec.
