A tablet, also known as a tablet computer, in the current sense is a rectangular compact device with a diagonal of seven to ten inches, designed to work with applications, documents, and also for web surfing. All tablets have internet connectivity, but can they all make calls?
Internet calls
All tablets on the market today have the ability to make calls, but they do it with one caveat, these are not calls in the usual sense, but the ability to connect with another subscriber via the Internet.
Definitely, any tablet model with a program installed on it, for example, Skype or Viber, can call. To do this, you just need to connect your tablet to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Moreover, it can be free calls.
Of course, you do not pay anything, provided that you call from Viber to Viber or from Skype to another Skype subscriber. Outgoing calls to mobiles or landlines will incur a certain fee, the amount of which will depend on the tariff plan you choose.
Cellular calls
Make calls in the usual sense, i.e. Not every tablet can use the usual GSM cellular network for us. The problem lies in the design features of the device.
Your tablet must have a GSM module and a SIM card slot installed. But this does not guarantee that you can make calls from the tablet.
Many manufacturers equip their products with the ability to install a SIM card only to connect the tablet to the Internet, when, for example, Wi-Fi networks are not available. A striking example of such a solution is the iPad from Apple. Despite the presence of a SIM card slot in it, the tablet cannot make calls via the cellular network.
If for you the ability to make calls in the cellular network is one of the key parameters when choosing a tablet, carefully read the technical characteristics of your future device. It is recommended to study such information first-hand, i.e. on the manufacturer's website. As a rule, this option is described in a separate paragraph. In addition, you can always check with the seller in the store whether the tablet you have chosen has the ability to make calls via a regular cellular network.
Despite the fact that the "tablet" has the ability to receive calls, the process of a telephone conversation using a tablet can hardly be called comfortable. This is due not only to the dimensions of the device and to the fact that you will hear the interlocutor on the “speakerphone”, which is not always acceptable, say, in public transport. So when buying a tablet with the ability to make calls, you need to think about purchasing a headset.
