A leak in a gas tank is a common problem, so every driver should know how to fix it. You should start repairing the gas tank immediately after detecting a leak, without wasting time looking for solutions.

Instructions

Step 1

If the hole formed in the gas tank is small, and you do not intend to drain the gasoline, then first of all you need to stop the leak. The easiest and fastest way to do this is by carefully covering the hole with laundry soap. Next, you need to carefully remove the excess soap with a cleaner. Be careful, because if you remove too much soap, the leak will reopen. Degrease the surface. Acetone or any other solvent can be used as a degreasing agent. The degreased surface should be cleaned with sandpaper and then left to dry completely. Next, you need to carefully cover the hole with cold welding and wait 10-15 minutes until the welding has completely hardened. Then dampen a few rags with epoxy glue and gently glue to the surface of the gas tank, covering the leak. Wait 24 hours and then you can use the machine again.

Step 2

Another method will work if the hole is relatively large. Drain all gasoline from the gas tank, degrease, clean with sandpaper and dry the surface near the hole formed in the gas tank. Take a few rags and dampen them with glue. When the glue dries a little, glue the rags to the surface of the gas tank, covering the leak, and wait until the glue is completely dry. Then apply two more layers of glue to the rags (each layer should be about 1-2 cm thick). Cover the patch thoroughly with nitro paint and wait until it dries. Then you can refill the gasoline tank: the leak will most likely be repaired.

Step 3

If you do not have time to prepare the surface of the gas tank (cleaning, degreasing, etc.) - cut a washer out of paronite, then install a self-tapping screw and a washer in the hole formed in the gas tank, and then cover the surface of the gas tank with paint. The hole may have to be enlarged in order to close it with a self-tapping screw, but the leak will be immediately eliminated.
