A card reader is a gadget that is designed to conveniently read information from digital devices. To connect it to a computer, you just need to insert the desired memory card into the card reader.

Why do you need a card reader?

The card reader is a multi-adapter designed for reading data from memory cards. Memory cards are used in mobile phones, cameras, PDAs and other devices. The question immediately arises of why this card reader is needed, if the information can also be read using a USB cable, which is standard on all devices. But card readers have their advantages.

When transferring data through a card reader, the information reading speed will be at least 6 Mb / s. And data transfer using a USB cable usually occurs at a speed of about 300 Kb / s. That is, the speed of reading files through a card reader is 20 times faster than through a cable.

The second advantage is the convenience and practicality of the card reader. Usually, when connecting various devices via a USB cable, you also need to install drivers or additional programs so that the computer can recognize them. This is not always convenient, especially if the user has several work computers and many digital devices. When connecting the card reader, such problems do not arise, and the inserted memory cards are displayed as separate removable disks.

In addition, connecting any device (such as a phone or camera) via a USB cable negatively affects the battery and shortens its life. When using a card reader, this problem does not exist, since in this case only the memory card of the device is used.

When choosing a card reader, you also need to pay attention to the number of supported types of memory. The more different memory cards a device can support, the lower the data transfer rate and the higher the price. Therefore, you need to choose card readers wisely.

What kind of card readers are there?

Depending on the connection method, card readers are divided into 2 groups: external and internal. The internal card reader will be useful for PC users, since it is inserted into the system unit in the place that is reserved for the drive. It is also called a built-in card reader. Since it will be problematic to carry such a device (you need to constantly connect and disconnect it inside the system unit), it is better to use an internal card reader on your home computer.

External card readers are now considered popular. This device is already more compact and connects to a computer (or laptop) via a USB cable. In size, it is comparable to a regular flash drive, which allows you to carry it even in your pocket.
