Step 1
Make sure the drill is strong enough. Pay attention to the auger, it must be able to handle loads up to 80 kg. It's easy to check, just stand on some corner of the auger. The auger should not bend under your weight. Look at the drill rod and handle, they should also resist twisting equal to the weight of the driller (assuming it is within 80 kg). This is a little more difficult to verify. Secure the drill horizontally, eliminate rotation, and rest your weight on the end of the handle.
Step 2
Check the auger design. The auger must have a pitch of at least 100 mm, which means that your fist must pass through it freely, otherwise the drill will stagger during operation. See if the auger is sharpened correctly, its sharp edge must point downwards, otherwise it will be inconvenient for you to work. All cutting edges must contain wear-resistant metal (this can be easily checked with a file), so that the drill cannot quickly become blunt.
Step 3
Choose a drill with a suitable shaft. It must be supplied with elements that make it easier to lift, otherwise, even from a small depth, it will not be easy to lift a loaded drill by the handle. Also, the best shaft is composite. Remember that the design of its connection must be without bolts. In intensive drilling, it is not uncommon for the bolts to loosen and you simply run the risk of ending up without a drill. And the constant twisting of them will not add speed to your work.
