A fax modem is mandatory in modern laptops. The procedure for setting up fax communication from a laptop running Windows XP is simple and straightforward for every user. By default, the fax service is not activated. In order to complete the installation, you need to perform some actions.
Instructions
Step 1
Select the "Control Panel" folder, go to the "Add or Remove Programs" line. You will see "Install Windows Components" in the left pane. Select this option.
Step 2
You will be presented with a list of Windows Component Wizards. Install the Fax Service icon. You will receive the "Component Wizard" instructions, read it carefully and follow its points.
Step 3
If the installation detects a fax device, it will create a logical fax printer in the Printers and Faxes folder. This means that from any application that supports printing documents, you can send a document to this printer. The document will be sent by fax.
Step 4
Make the setting. Open the Printers and Faxes folder. Now left-click on the line of fax printers. A context menu will appear. From the commands select the Properties button. Five tabs will open in front of you.
Step 5
The General tab controls the print quality, settings and orientation of the printed sheet. It also contains the name of the fax printer. The Access tab contains settings for accessing the fax printer.
Step 6
In the "Tracking" tab, order the display of the sequence of sending and receiving faxes. Select sound notification for calls and file operations.
Step 7
Click the Archives tab and find out the location of the incoming and outgoing fax data.
Step 8
In the Devices tab, find your fax device in the list. Select the "Properties" line. You will be presented with a window with three tabs: "Sending", "Receiving", "Cleaning".
Step 9
On the Cleanup tab, specify the options for automatically deleting mistaken faxes.
Step 10
In the "Receiving" tab, specify the code of the called recipient. Select the "Answer" calls to manual position check box. This way you can control the answer to all incoming fax calls yourself.
Step 11
You can set the switch to "Automatic" after and enter any number of calls. So the fax will pick up the receiver automatically after the set number of rings.
