Step 1
Operators of cellular networks sell quite ordinary USB modems under their own brand, but their firmware (software) is designed only for the SIM card of this operator. If you insert a SIM card of another operator, the modem will refuse to work and will require you to enter the unlock code. To access the Internet, the device must be “opened” or “unlocked” - that is, to replace the program wired into the device's memory with another one that enables the modem to work with SIM cards of any operators.

To unlock the modem, you need to find a special program that allows you to do this. When choosing a program, be sure to take into account the brand of the modem - if you try to reprogram the modem with firmware for another model, it can be damaged. You should also know that jailbreaking will void your modem warranty.
Step 3
First, try to find a program that generates an unlock code. In this case, you do not have to reflash the modem, you just enter the generated code. Step 4
Since there are different models of modems, sometimes the code generator does not help, the modem still refuses to work. In this case, you will have to reflash it using a special program. For example, for the ZTE MF 627 and MF 626 modems, the MF626_M02_Upgrade Tool.exe program is suitable. There are also firmwares for Huawei modems. When choosing the firmware, be sure to make sure that it is suitable for your modem.
Step 5
The process of flashing itself is quite simple: you need to remove the SIM card from the modem, insert it into the USB port of the computer and start the firmware. The process will last for several minutes, while the modem will crackle and blink with an indicator - do not be alarmed, it should be so. It is very important to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the computer during the flashing: if it suddenly disappears, the modem may be hopelessly damaged. When the process is complete, take out the modem, insert the SIM card and start working. The standard communication screen saver from MTS will be replaced by another one - more convenient and with a choice of different mobile operators.
