In order to be able to determine the numbers of those calling to a landline telephone, it is not enough to purchase a device with this function and order the corresponding service at the PBX. It is also necessary to correctly connect this device to the telephone, and sometimes to the electrical network.

Instructions

Step 1

When purchasing a phone with caller ID, the first step is to inspect the telephone socket to which you are going to connect it. If it is made to the same standard as the plug on the device, nothing needs to be done. If not, change either the plug or the outlet. The second is, of course, preferable.

Step 2

When installing an old-style telephone plug instead of a modern one, cut the latter so that the piece of wire together with the cut-off plug has a length of about 20 centimeters. This will allow you to use it in the future to connect some other phone to a modern outlet. Do not connect the two outermost wires in the cord. Orienting the old-style plug pulled out of the socket with the screws towards you, and with the plastic pin down, connect the middle wires to the right contacts. Try closing the plug and then plugging it into a telephone wall jack. If after that the phone does not work, pull out the plug again, open the outlet, and without touching its contacts, look at which of them the line is connected to, and then rearrange the middle wires of the cord to these contacts. Then close the plug again, reconnect it and check the operation of the device.

Step 3

If, on the contrary, you need to connect the device with an old plug to a modern outlet, open the plug, open the wires from its terminals, then take a piece of cord with a modern plug at the end. For this cord, leave the outermost wires unconnected to anything, and the middle wires to the wires exiting the device. Insulate the connections, and then plug the unit into a power outlet.

Step 4

Some phones with caller ID are equipped with an AC adapter. Plug it into the wall socket on the lighting network before plugging the telephone line cord into the telephone wall socket. If the unit has a radio handset, place it on the base. If necessary, pair the handset with the base according to the instructions, and then wait a few hours for the battery in the handset to charge. Also, some phones with caller ID without a power supply operate on batteries. Install them, observing the polarity, before connecting the device to the line.

Step 5

Then set up the machine. First of all, find in the instructions a description of the method for choosing the standard for determining the number (domestic caller ID or foreign DTMF). Select the one that corresponds to the standard accepted by your PBX. After that, set the exact time, the desired ringer volume, and select the notification voice (male or female), as well as the alarm clock melody for a domestically produced device. Set the trigger time of the latter.

Step 6

Call yourself on a landline phone from your cell. The number must be determined. Remember that if the caller ID of the domestic standard is used, at the time of detection, an imitation of picking up the receiver will occur, and funds will be debited from the cell phone account. In this case, only the last seven digits of the number will be determined.
